The Honda Insight Prototype Just Made its Global Debut in Detroit

On January 15, the five-passenger Honda Insight prototype passenger sedan was introduced to the world at the North American International Auto Show. Show attendees were rewarded with a first look at the most-recent addition to Honda's electrified vehicle lineup, which will be launched later on this year.

Honda has positioned the premium compact sedan above the Honda Civic in the company's passenger car lineup, elevating it above other compact hybrid models due to its sleek design, spacious cabin and sophisticated driving dynamics. Naturally, drivers will enjoy excellent fuel efficiency, with Honda anticipating that the EPA will estimate a combined fuel economy of more than 50mpg.

Not content with merely offering an extremely attractive hybrid sedan, Honda has loaded the 2019 Honda insight with such premium features as available leather seating, a 7-inch digital LCD driver's meter, and an 8-inch display audio touchscreen. Drivers will appreciate that the display offers intuitive, smartphone-like features, including customizable app tiles and home screen shortcuts. Available Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ connectivity, along with Wi-Fi enabled system updates, add to the overall sense of complete connectivity.

The 2019 Honda Insight is powered by Honda's third-generation two-motor hybrid system, which is comprised of an efficient 1.5-liter Atkinson cycle engine, an electric propulsion motor and a lithium-ion battery pack. The hybrid batteries are located under the rear seats, allowing for the sedan to boast a full-size trunk.

In a press release, Henio Arcangeli, Jr., Senior Vice President of Automobile Sales and General Manager of the Honda Division, American Honda Motor Co., Inc, declared, "The new 2019 Honda Insight signals we are entering a new era of electrification with a new generation of Honda products that offer customers the benefits of advanced powertrain technology without the traditional trade-offs in design, premium features or packaging. The Honda Insight is anticipated to receive fuel economy ratings competitive with the best hybrids in the segment, with styling that will have universal appeal inside and out and best-in-class passenger volume."
